3. FCC is governed by a board, which is headed by a chairman and six commissioners representing the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
4. The commission has offices in the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
5. The main functions of FCC include monitoring the implementation of the federal character principle, conducting investigations into alleged violations of the principle, and providing advice to the government on matters related to the principle.
6. The federal character principle is enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and requires that appointments to public offices and allocation of federal resources be based on fair and equitable distribution among the various ethnic groups in the country.
