During the program, participants will gain a solid grounding in themes and topics in international affairs, receive training in core diplomatic skills, and participate in activities with the following Geneva-based agencies:

  • United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG)

The Immersion Programmes in Geneva will be offered in the summer and winter editions, July – August 2022 and January – February 2023, respectively. The course focuses on career development in the United Nations as well as leadership skills. Workshops on these topics will form the bulk of the course.

PACKAGE PREMIUM

An Immersion Programme premium package is also available to participants. UN Young Leaders Online Training Programme as a preparatory e-Learning course is included. The UNITAR online platform is implemented four weeks before the field visit, preparing the participants for their time at the UN.

This program is broken down into four modules that can be studied at your own pace and requires 6-8 hours of study per week. There are five hours of live content each week featuring UN experts, weekly reading material, multimedia files, and moderated discussion boards:

  1. Module 1: The United Nations
  2. Module 2: Conference Diplomacy
  3. Module 3: Sustainable Development Goals
  4. Module 4: Cross-cultural Communication

Participants who purchase the premium package will be accommodated in Geneva during the field visit, which is included in the fee. UNITAR will provide 6 nights of accommodation in a reputable hotel close to UN institutions (check-in on Sunday, check-out on Saturday).

PARTICIPANTS

Immersion Program is open to anyone with a deep interest in the United Nations. There can be participants from the public or private sector, NGOs, think tanks and academia. Both university students and participants from completely different backgrounds are welcome to apply.

We will limit the number of participants to 30 per field visit and 50 per online training programme to ensure the highest quality standards. According to the first-come, first-served rule, slots will be allocated. Participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion upon completion of the programmes.

REGISTRATION

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, UNITAR will ensure that the program will completely conform to current health safety standards, such as social distancing, hygiene measures, and contact tracing in case some participants are not fully vaccinated. Depending on the latest developments in this area, the program’s agenda may need to be modified.

The UN Young Leaders Online Training Programme is free of charge for those who cannot travel to Switzerland this spring or summer due to COVID-19-related travel restrictions. Additionally, their spot for the field trip to Geneva will be automatically transferred to its next edition in 2022 or 2023 at no additional cost.

UNITAR looks forward to welcoming you in Geneva this spring and summer:
