The mission of the international non-profit organization WaterAid is to provide access to clean water, adequate toilets, and basic hygiene so that more people can escape poverty and disease, realize their full potential, and transform their lives for the better. In 1995, WaterAid established operations in Nigeria. Since then, it has made a difference in the lives of the extremely poor by carrying out a number of intervention activities according to its aims. With financing from numerous donors and partners, WaterAid’s country office in Abuja currently operates in the states of Bauchi, Enugu, and Plateau.

Job Description
- This role is available as a 1x Permanent Full-time Contract and 1x Fixed-term 12 months Maternity cover. Both options will be discussed at the interview stage.

- The WaterAid Strategic Communications team identifies and maximises strategic and creative communications opportunities and value for WaterAid in the UK and Globally.
- As our Advocacy Communications Manager you will work closely with cross-functional teams in the UK and Globally, leading the coordination and delivery of communications campaigns and high impact activities aligned to advocacy strategies
About the Role
- In this role, you will play a key role in translating core policy messaging into compelling advocacy communications materials and harnessing strategic channels to effectively influence decision-makers at international, regional and country levels.
You’ll Also
- Ensure we have strong and effective communications at the heart of our two global advocacy campaigns focusing on Hygiene and Health and Water and Climate Change.
- Inspire colleagues with your creativity and innovation – whilst remaining ruthlessly strategic ensuring that every piece of content has a defined purpose and audience.
- Contribute global advocacy communications plans into wider organisational strategic communications planning and activities.
- Brief and work closely with internal and external stakeholders on the delivery of creative and strategic communications materials.
- Convene a global group of key communications leads from across our country, regional and member teams on a regular basis to plan, coordinate and monitor the delivery of advocacy communications in support of the global priority campaigns.
To Be Successful, You’ll Need
- A University Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience of designing compelling campaign messages and communications across a range of channels, including ability to translate complex issues into simple messages that non-expert audiences can understand and act on.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to successfully manage complex and sensitive organisational relationships to achieve cross-organisational, collectively agreed goals.
- Ability to travel.
- Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these.
- Track record of delivering successful communication plans at global and national level across both low-income and high-income country contexts to achieve campaign objectives.
- A strategic, innovative and creative thinker with the ability to design simple communications that have impact.
Desirable but Non-essential Skills:
- Proficiency in another language preferably French or Portuguese.
- Experience of delivering communications work in Africa, Asia and/or Pacific country contexts.
Salary
Salary of a Nigeria-based candidate of N21,285,694 – 24,163,624 subject to experience.
