No Room For Casual Wears:
Once you’re given your camp kits, it is expected of you to always put them on as there’s no room for casual wears.
Only your T-shirt and shorts with the tennis shoe are allowed on you.
Parade training commences immediately..
The soldiers will not give you breathing space at all.
You will have the first one on your very first day. Eat sufficiently and healthily to avoid fainting during the parade.
Morning Regimented Programme:
By 4:30am, you should be at the parade ground. You will have your praise, worship and prayer the Christian or Muslim way.
After the morning admonitions, by 7am, breakfast follows.
After eating, you will be called out again for the series of programmes lined up for you.
Then you will have your lunch, Rest a little and you will be called out again for evening parade, then your dinner later.
This will repeat itself everyday perhaps except on Sunday.
Feeding of yourself is at your costs:
If you don’t like the camp food, you can go outside and purchase what’s best and suitable for you at your cost.
Stealing:
Stealing is prevalent at the Camp. They can steal anything. Secure your items.
However, don’t be the thief because if you’re caught and reported, it’ll be a disaster.
Soldiers:
Please always respect and obey the soldier at the camp ground.
However, they are not permitted to beat or maltreat you, but they have the right to serve you punishment when you go against rules.
Don’t walk, but jog when you are called by them. You don’t have to prostrate or kneel down greeting a soldier. Just do it the soldier way i.e salute.
Allawee/monthly stipends:
The First allowance of 33,000 will be paid while in the camp.
Then, every other allowance will be remitted to you via bank transfers.
AFTER THE 3WEEKS OF CAMPING, YOU WILL BE POSTED TO YOUR PRIMARY PLACE OF ASSIGNMENT:
After the camping, you will be posted to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) where you will work.
Take note of this, about 90% of the Corps members will be posted to primary and secondary schools mostly.
Only Very Few will be posted to the universities, polytechnics and Colleges.
Transportation Out Of Camp:
When you receive your Posting Letter, the first place you should go to is your PPA. If you are identified with the Fellowship in camp, you may first report at the temporary lodge they will provide. Then you could report at your PPA later same day or the following day.
As you leave the camp, the comfort and relaxation of home will pop up in your mind due to the really taxing routine experienced at the camp. Lol, it’s normal.
A Few employers (i.e. where you are posted to) usually send down vehicles to convey corp members (posted to their facility) from the camp to their workplaces. Private and some Government higher education institutions do so.
The Fellowship could also make arrangement for you at your cost. Commercial transporters will likely be available at the gate too.
Make your choice wisely.
Accommodation at PPA:
If you know no one in the place you are posted to, where will you shelter yourself on the first day?
The Fellowship may give you a temporary accommodation pending the time you will have to get yours.
Or You could be lucky if your employer gives you a room.
Many of them don’t give Corps members accommodation.
So you should be prepared to get shelter at your cost.
Clearance:
Your clearance at the NYSC Office in the Local Government you will be posted to is very important. This is why you don’t have to go straight home.
FAILURE TO COMPLETE IT BEFORE GOING HOME IS THE BEGINNING OF YOUR PROBLEM.
